Mary, Queen of Scots lived a life in the eye. A queen when she was less than a week old, she was a child exile, a teenaged bride, and a Catholic queen in a Protestant country. Even as she struggled to assert her authority in Scotland, she closely watched the English succession, aware that she was just one heartbeat away from the English crown. Making many unwise choices, she found herself a prisoner of Elizabeth I, spending nearly twenty years under house arrest as she plotted her freedom. Mary, Queen of Scots was a divisive figure in her own lifetime, and her legacy as a tragic heroine has lasted into the twenty-first century.

Led by an expert on the Tudor period, Dr. Elizabeth Norton, this Conversation will provide an overview of the life and importance of Mary, Queen of Scots, as well as introducing participants to some of the recently unveiled scholarship exploring her life and reign. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Mary, Queen of Scots, 'the Daughter of Debate'.

To learn more about the Tudor dynasty, we invite you to explore additional installments in this series of conversations, led by Dr. Norton.
