We will begin by discussing the city of Delft in the 17th century and the painters that inspired Vermeer. Masters like Pieter de Hooch and the enigmatic Carel Fabritius will feature in this lecture. Also featured will be the early pictures of Vermeer, some of which might be a surprise with their vast difference from the work usually associated with Vermeer.
Our second session in the course will feature a selection of masterpieces from the most famous period of the artist's career. Together we will review favorites like "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "The Milkmaid." Also featured will be lesser-known and controversial works, as well as his late great masterpiece "The Art of Painting".
In which we will immerse ourselves in the less popular but nevertheless extremely interesting Vermeers, featuring the latest research, debates, and a sneak peek of the Vermeer exhibition of 2023 in Amsterdam. We will also discuss how Vermeer went in and out of fashion, only to be rediscovered in the 19th century.

Can't wait for the exhibition! I think Sabry has prepared us well for it.
Sabry never disappoints! This was a fascinating look at Vermeer's paintings including some new insights based on recent research.
I was extremely impressed by how Sabry organized this well-researched talk! I just wish that I could have listened live and put some comments/questions in the chat instead of having to listen to the recordings..
