It was an honor and a privilege to spend an hour and a half with Lionel Davis. What an act of generosity on his part to talk to a small group of Context participants about his life from childhood in District 6 in Capetown, through his politization, imprisonment on Robben Island for 7 years, 5 years of house arrest, the healing that had to follow all of that, his path through art, and his work at the Robben Island Museum. It was a deeply moving experience and very honest and open. Talking with someone who has lived through this is another level from reading about it in books.
It's not often we have the chance to listen to and ask questions of a survivor of apartheid and uprisings that overthrew it. It was a moving and inspiring experience!
