Richard Sperry provides a comprehensive overview of the background leading up to the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. With the 80th anniversary coming up next year, it is a timely introduction to the story of Pearl Harbor and the America's entry into WWII. Mr. Sperry's enthusiastic presentation, with excellent graphics and book recommendations makes one want to learn much more about the different "players" and theatres of WWII.
Richard is exceptionally knowledgeable about the back story and details of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, as well as a number of other aspects of World War II. I found the detail regarding the Japanese perspective and rationale especially interesting, as it often receives short shrift in American circles.
He also went the extra mile in providing access to a very lengthy recommended reading list without participants having to make a special request. ThT is much appreciated.
Richard was very personal & patient with participant questions. I welcomed the opportunity to learn from him and strongly encourage others to do the same.
The pre-Pearl Harbor portion of the lecture was quite unorganized bouncing from topic to topic in an off-putting way. The discussion of Pearl Harbor was much better.
Less about Japan's plans and thoughts and too much about the actual attack in my opinion.
