How did Franklin Roosevelt, a scion of America’s elite, inspire hope in millions of suffering citizens during the Great Depression? How did he re-design the purposes and expectations of American government through the New Deal? This lecture seeks to answer those questions as we dive into the history of one of America’s most influential presidents.

Franklin Roosevelt was arguably the most transformative president of the twentieth century. The lecture will show how domestic policy was connected to foreign policy, particularly President Roosevelt’s successful efforts to defeat fascism and re-make the international order.

Led by an expert in American history, Dr. Jeremi Suri, this seminar places the spotlight on Franklin Roosevelt as we investigate President Roosevelt’s ideas, his leadership style, and his legacies for contemporary American domestic and foreign policy.

This conversation is part of a six-part series on American Presidents with Dr. Jeremi Suri. Each session is designed as a stand-alone seminar as well as part of a six-week series.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

FDR: We could use him now!!

Count me in with the other reviewers who've recommended Dr. Suri's lectures. His scholarship and perspective bring a depth to FDR that I wasn't aware of, and I thought I'd read and knew plenty. What was so enjoyable was how Dr Suri brought FDR to life, I know that sounds corny, but I have such deeper awareness and appreciation of FDR post-seminar.
