The Bridgerton’s are a fictional family, but the time period represented in this wildly popular book and TV series is very real. Set in the first half of the nineteenth-century, come and discover this era's foods and customs including calling cards, cotillions, lawn parties, and formal dinners.
This was an era of horse-drawn coaches, afternoon teas, and formal dinners… a time when even picnics were served on fine china. We’ll discuss the nineteenth-century meanings of giving a lady a tulip instead of a rose; we’ll discover the most popular toasts of the era and learn when it was proper to remove your gloves or tip your hat. Explore why lady’s magazines of the nineteenth-century advised bringing a bundle of sticks to a party. Learn the calling card equivalent of “unfriending” someone and why the nutmeg grater was the must-have accessory of the 1800s.
This seminar includes a trivia contest on the uses for now-obsolete objects and recipe handouts. Led by an expert on food history, Francine Segan, this interactive seminar will delight and entertain.. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of “ton” society in Regency England.

Delightful!

This was a very entertaining and well done seminar! I could have listened to Francine for hours and never tired of her presentation. I love the subject matter of the Regency period and novels written about that period of time, so I loved hearing all the details of how things were really done during that time period.

Well-researched and fascinating

Francine has clearly done extensive research into her subject matter. She really brought this period to life: plenty of substance but also some fun "tidbits." I recommend this highly, whether you've seen "Bridgerton" or not (I have not).

Ready for my tea!

This was a well-prepared,well organized talk on a subject near and dear to many hearts. Ms. Segan not only has an enormous fund of knowledge but also presents it in an engaging, enthusiastic manner. This was a lovely program. Now, where’s my tea?

Fine Dining!

In Francine’s delightful lecture, she highlighted the complex etiquette; the over-the-top main dishes and desserts, and the lovely china, silver, crystal, and other objects that Regency aristocrats required.
