Join Francine Segan to pay homage to Italian poet Dante Alighieri in the northern region of Emilia-Romagna, his final resting place. Discover the fascinating connections between Dante and Ravenna, a UNESCO World Heritage City, and find out more about Dante Year 2021.

2021 marks the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death and will be celebrated around the world with virtual events, academic conferences, and readings of The Divine Comedy. This seminar will explore Ravenna and the poet’s tomb in the Church of San Francesco and will also set the stage for Dante Year, including a summary of virtual events available around the world.

Many Italian cities would like to claim Dante as their native son: born in Florence, he was exiled and spent time in Rome and Verona before arriving in Ravenna, where he died and is buried. During this lively seminar, we’ll explore Ravenna, a UNESCO World Heritage City famed for its many spectacular fifth-century mosaics. We will discover the many wonderful sights, art, music, wines, fashion, and foods in this must-visit city. No visit to Emilia Romagna would be complete without discussing the must-try regional delicacies including piadina, Lambrusco, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Aceto Balsamico, and more

Led by award-winning author and Italian culture expert, Francine Segan, this interactive seminar will educate and entertain. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Italian poet Dante Alighieri and the glorious sights and foods in and around Ravenna, the city where he is buried.
