Thoroughly enjoyed this and learned a lot, too.
A seminar that takes us to — and beyond — the crossroads where Scotland’s history meets the saga of the Roman Empire. Dr. Montgomery delves into two competing and conflicting narratives about ancient Scotland, the idea that Roman never did conquer Scotland versus the idea that a Roman presence contributed mightily to elevating the culture of the Caledonian tribes encountered there. A well-conceptualized and clearly presented look at these competing backstories, as well as a thought-provoking example of how a nation’s people write its history over time.
