Join Sabry Amroussi for a showcase of the best paintings created by British artists of the last three centuries. With his trademark wit and unique point of view, he’ll convey to us a narrative overview of famous British works you may have studied before, but now in a new light. Together we will also dive into the archives, metaphorically, to examine several works by famous British artists that rarely see the limelight.

Focusing primarily on paintings created by Turner, Gainsborough, Bacon, and their contemporaries, we will highlight a blend of their iconic masterpieces and oft-overlooked creations. Each with their own fresh perspective and cutting-edge visions, these legendary British artists influenced the work of their peers in the United Kingdom, as well as the canon of art history abroad. Their legacy remains as poignant as ever in auction houses, private collections, and museum galleries internationally.

Led by an acclaimed Art Historian, Sabry Amroussi, this Conversation will explore undisputed highlights as well as lesser-known works of British Art. Designed to inform curiosity and future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the remarkable impact British painters have had throughout recent history.

Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection in Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.

Out of the park again

Once again Sabry Amroussi hit it out of the park with new comments on the major British painters, from early l9th century through Francis Bacon. One hopes a new series of seminars can come from this, on individual painters. He has observed so much and done his research.
