Poland has historically been home to one of the world’s largest Jewish communities and the center of this thriving civilization was Kraków. Kazimierz, the historical Jewish Quarter of Kraków, is a must-see destination during any trip to the city. It is a relatively small neighborhood where, despite the destruction of World War II and the Holocaust, the original fabric of the Jewish history and culture remains untouched, with seven ancient synagogues standing witness to the test of time.

Join us for an interactive live walking tour as we stroll together through the cobbled streets of Kazimierz. During our time together we will discover the historical context of the local Jewish community and review the dramatic narrative timeline of Jewish culture’s revival in contemporary Poland. Present-day Kazimierz stands witness to its glorious, tumultuous past but it is also a cultural heart of the modern city of Kraków and home to a small but vibrant Jewish community.

Led by an expert on the Jewish history of Poland and a local Kraków guide, Małgorzata Fus, this live virtual tour will amaze participants with 360º views of the richness of the Jewish civilization that once existed in Poland. We can expect to confront the sadness and nostalgia for the lost, pre-war world but feel inspired by the story of the revival and resilience of Jewish life across Poland and Central Europe. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with increased knowledge about Kazimierz’s tremendous impact on the contemporary Jewish world post-WWII.

There will be time available to ask questions throughout this interactive virtual tour. Participants from all walks of life are welcome.

Małgorzata Fus has a degree in Jewish Studies from Jagiellonian University, where she specialized in Jewish culture and Yiddish theater. Following her studies, she joined the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków as a member of the education department. There she was responsible for creating exhibits, designing educational programs, and guiding visitors. Building on her passion for educating about Polish Jewish history, she later became an official tour guide. She now runs her own tour company which cooperates with a number of Jewish institutions (Jewish Community Centre in Kraków, Forum for Dialogue, and the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews). She also coordinates commemoration projects, among them the Jewish orphanage in Kraków’s former ghetto.
