Dr. Montgomery provided a comprehensive account of the intrigues, plots, battles, and deaths resulting from the decades-long, but ultimately unsuccessful, attempts of the Jacobites to return the Stuarts to the throne of England after King James VII of England/II of Scotland had been forced to "vacate" the throne in 1689, with William of Orange and Mary replacing him. These struggles continued sporadically through 1745, when James' grandson, Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie), met a final defeat. James VII was the last Catholic ruler of England.
I thoroughly enjoyed this seminar. Since watching "Outlander" I've become more interested in Scottish history. Dr. Montgomery provided many interesting facts and detailed background on the Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie. He has given me a better understanding of Scottish history during this time period.
Engaging and clearly presented
A really enjoyable and informative seminar.
I just discovered that I’m more Scottish than Irish so I became very interested in Scotland. I thought it would be important to learn a little history about my heritage. Dr. Montgomery gave a great narrative that has whet my appetite for more. Makes me wonder who my ancestors rooted for!
