La Dolce Vita! Explore Italy's many fabulous desserts: cannoli, gelato, baba with rum, biscotti, amaretti, granita, marzipan, and more. Learn which must-try specialties to order in each region and discover the fascinating story behind our favorite treats.

Italy is famous for its sublime pastries and dessert. Discover the sweet advantage Italy had over the rest of Europe in developing dessert as we trace the fascinating stories behind hundreds of delicious sweets like black rice, “virgin’s breasts,” and a sweet pudding called “Pope’s soup.” Learn about special Carnival, Easter, and Christmas desserts and Italy’s many influences on America’s classic desserts.

Led by food historian Francine Segan, an expert on Italy, this interactive seminar will entertain and delight. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the many fabulous desserts and sweets to enjoy in Italy.

The talk includes a handout with recipes of classic Italian sweets.

Great Dessert Lover's Tour of Italy with Francine Segan

Absolutely great!

Francine Segan did terrific job with this tour --- well organized, illustrated, and presented. I have made several trips to Italy and love eating there. And, now I understand their desserts.

I enjoyed this Conversation so much that, right afterwards, I signed up for one Francine is doing next week on chocolate in Italy.

I had some questions on places to eat in Florence and how to buy Italian desserts here in States. Following her suggestion, I e-mailed these to Francine. She quickly responded with some great suggestions. Help that went above and beyond.
