The Met's Cloisters with Danielle Oteri

Explore the inside of the Cloisters, the medieval branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to visit the building constructed of fragments of ruined monasteries accompanied by blooming gardens. Our presenter Danielle has worked for the Met Cloisters for 15 years and will give us all the insider information to really go deeper into this fascinating subject. Kept inside a building that appears like an enclosed medieval monastery in Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park are many of the greatest treasures of medieval art. 

This Context Conversation takes you inside the museum to understand how it was built in the 1930s from French and Spanish cloisters and chapels. We'll also visit the Unicorn Tapestries, the Cloisters Cross which was the subject of the book "King of the Confessors," and look closely at the herb gardens, planted and organized in accordance with medieval designs.
