From the splendor of the Golden Circle to the Northern Lights, Iceland’s natural beauty has no bounds. In this conversation, Ryan Connolly, founder of an Icelandic adventure travel company, will take the time to explore Iceland in the day time and at night.
We will begin this virtual tour in the world-famous Golden Circle. Thanks to the geothermal heat deep under the ground in this area of the country, you are treated to natural hot pools at the Secret Lagoon, erupting geysers, and lunch at the year round tomato greenhouse of Friðheimar. Concurrently, this area of the country is also the exact location where the Eurasian and North American continents break apart leaving behind scarred and broken landscapes perfect for vertiginous waterfalls to flow into, like at the Thingvellir National Park, or at Gullfoss, one of Iceland's largest waterfalls.
The perfect day is followed swiftly by the perfect night. This rural and empty part of Iceland has no unnatural light or tall mountains to upset the chances of seeing the Northern Lights. We’ll marvel at images taken from across the country while our experts explains, in easy-to-understand-science, how the Northern Lights are formed.
We will fit all this into a breathtaking hour, but participants will be amazed that this is all possible in one action-packed day for when an eventual trip to Iceland might be in the making. Led by an expert on the nature and geography of Iceland, this conversation will awaken learners to the intriguing natural features of Iceland and deepen our understanding of this fascinating country.

Ryan Connolly is a Scottish-born, permanent resident of Iceland. After stepping foot on all 7 continents in 2016, he used his expertise in exploration and nature to set up Hidden Iceland, one of the highest rated tour companies in Iceland on Tripadvisor. Ryan's expertise in glacier exploration and survival makes him ideal to share his adopted homeland with you. He is a Wilderness First Responder and holds qualifications in Glacier Exploration (Joklar 2) as well as having 100s of days of guided outdoor exploration in snow, ice, rock and mountainous terrain.

Understanding the Nature of Iceland

Ryan provided fascinating insight into Iceland's history, both culturally and geologically, and agricultural measures in a difficult climate, as well as introducng sights and experiences which would be of interest to the visitor. Particularly interesting were his scientific explanations of the causes of the Northern Lights and the excellent visuals provided. Ryan answered all questions in great depth, which was quite satisfying.
