The Great Pyramid at Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes & the Lighthouse of Alexandria are the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, the Greek “theamata: things to be seen.” Today we would call them the absolute must-see monuments in the traveler’s list, but they were documented as sculptural & architectural marvels as early as the 3rd c. BCE.

Today only one of the Seven still stands, The Great Pyramid of Giza, a true testimony of human brilliance, a proof in stone that the characterization "Wonder" is spot-on. The remaining six have been destroyed by humanity or by the forces of nature. So why do these legendary monuments still inspire millions of tourists to visit places like Greece, Egypt, and Asia Minor, where these wonders once upon a time stood? Simply because the Seven Wonders never stopped being a source of intrigue, speculation, awe, inspiration, and amazement for the incredible achievements of human ingenuity since the dawn of time.

Led by an expert on Archaeology, Dimitra Pilarinou, this Conversation will present the Seven Wonders of The Ancient World, the world they were created in, and discuss all the new information science has discovered well as unknown stories surrounding these monuments. Designed to inform curiosity and future travels, participants will come away with an increased knowledge of these specific wonders and the ancient cultures that created them.
