Join us as we examine the architecture of the most beautiful buildings in the world–containing priceless medieval manuscripts, uniquely printed books, and yes, often very very odd other holdings.

Sabry Amroussi will be leading us on a tour of the world's most treasured library collections–sharing insider knowledge of their tumultuous history and extraordinary holdings. From the world-renowned Bodleian Library to one of the best-preserved medieval libraries in the world in a corner of the Netherlands, this talk will bring joy to learners with a love of the printed word.

Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and also has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. He lectures and teaches on both subjects, and gives art historical tours all across Europe. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection on Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.

Absolutely engaging and fun!

This tour was so engaging and wonderful. Dr. Amroussi Is so enthusiastic about these various curiosities, and explaining them or showing them to you. Such interesting things and an absolutely delightful way to be introduced to them.

Libraries are More Interesting Than You Might Expect

As always, with Sabry, we enjoyed a very informative tour of some of the great libraries in the world with a look at books and other items that would be hard to see otherwise. Sabry's enthusiasm is contagious and we're looking forward to on-site visits in the post-pandemic era.
