Dr. Oliva Espin provided a comprehensive overview of complex factors that contribute to decisions to migrate, travel to a new country, and undergo the acculturation process with an emphasis on women’s issues and sexuality. During recent social changes and conflict in the United States, it is invaluable to consider the complexities of immigrant experiences and adjustment to their new country, and to develop community and social programs that foster communication and cultural exchanges across communities. By being open to learning about different cultures and creating welcoming opportunities in our communities, we will likely be in a better position to address social challenges and enrich our own life experiences through knowledge and awareness of unique life perspectives as well as mutually beneficial and shared individual and community goals and plans well done. In short, a provocative and informative presentation by Dr. Espin. Many thanks!
