This conversation joins an expert guide as we look around the Cabinet Room where Winston Churchill met with his chiefs of staff and senior ministers to direct the British war effort. We'll hear about how the rooms were planned and built to deal with the threat of Nazi bombing (and just how close they came to being hit in the London Blitz). We'll learn about what life was really like underground. We'll step inside Churchill's bedroom and into the heart of the war rooms - The Map Room, where the ebb and flow of the allied efforts were plotted and analyzed 24/7 from the German invasion of Poland to the surrender of Japan.
The Churchill War Rooms are one of the most popular visitor destinations in London and provide a vivid history of the British wartime effort and of Winston Churchill's wartime leadership.

Led by Don Brown, a specialist in a number of subjects (WWII included), this interactive discussion will delve into the world of Churchill through his war rooms. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a better understanding of this captivating place.

Churchill War Rooms

Don Brown is a wonderful presenter - he brings history to life, with terrific pithy and sometimes humorous details . Both this and his seminar last year on the Code Breakers at Bletchley Park were both fascinating studies of WWII history. I have been to both places and thought I knew alot about both, but Don Brown added so much to that. Really enjoyable class.

Don Brown's presentation on Churchill War Rooms

Don's presentation was well researched. Provided historical "tidbits" that someone who has spent a great deal of time studying subject matter would know.

Don is an excellent presenter. I've zoomed into a number of presentations in the past (has it been 3 years since we've been zooming as a result of COVID).

As COVID is "considered" endemic, looking forward to traveling to UK next year. Sorry but this year's Europe trip is with OATs and includes the French & Italian riveras.

Entering the Churchill War Rooms

Dan Brown led a fast-paced, detail-rich, and infinitely informative visit to the Churchill War Rooms drawing parallels to events of WWII as it played its course . This was an exceptionally well-developed and elucidating presentation.

Excellent Conversation on Churchill's War Rooms

Don Brown's presentation on the Churchill War Rooms is so informative and detailed I almost felt like I was there. He gave us lots of deep historical context and insight into Churchill's and other's work in the War Rooms and their importance to the war effort. And it's all loaded with that English savoir faire that is so very charming!
