Join a local historian live from the streets of Saint Petersburg as we visit highlight sites such as the Winter Palace and the State Hermitage. The video-camera-led virtual tour will weave and wind its way through Saint Petersburg’s iconic landmarks, offering opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and an immersive visual experience.
Beginning from the city’s foundation in 1703, we will explore the major movements and revolutions which shaped the city while we actively stroll through its historic district. Starting from Palace Square, we will take a look at the city’s most iconic buildings and the history behind them. We will focus primarily on the world’s second-largest art museum, the State Hermitage Museum, with close attention to the Winter Palace.
From there, we venture towards the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. As we stroll, we will discuss the revolutions that shaped Russia including the reforms of Peter the Great, the Patriotic War with Napolean, the murder of the Russian Emperor Alexander I, and concluding with the Siege of Leningrad.
Led by historian and local expert Vadim Malinovsky, this live virtual tour will give participants the chance to experience Saint Petersburg’s architectural treasures from the comfort of home. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, guests will come away with an increased understanding of the historical landmarks which shaped the trajectory of the Russian Empire.
About Your Expert
Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.
