This is a wonderful seminar which focuses on many of the social, religious and political forces operating in
Venice. It is an essential companion to courses focused on Venetian art and architecture in order to obtain a deeper appreciation of this amazing city,
This is a wonderfully engaging and informative course. Learning about the social contexts has really deepened my appreciation and understanding of Venetian art and architecture. The short videos of various sites, mostly made by Dr. Steer, greatly add to the content. This would be a great introduction to Venice for those who are travelling there for the first time, as well as for return visitors.
This course provides a broader view of Venice's history from an artistic viewpoint. The use of video and audio was particularly enjoyable, and provided a sense of being there.
Wonderful course. I have been to Venice a few times but when I return my plans will be filled with the dreamy churches, Scoula and convents to see a Venice I haven’t seen before. Can’t wait.
A unique & rich look at how Venice melded the 3 aspects in the course title. Thoughtful use of videos, audio and many images gave depth to the lectures. Steer is an excellent presenter and a scholar who distills her presentations for general audiences. She interweaves the arts into the strata of Venetian society. Compelling.
