Anne Boleyn is by far the most famous of Henry’s queens. Born into a gentry family, she was educated in France before catching Henry’s eye following her return to England. Determined to make a good marriage, she refused to become Henry’s mistress, leading to an offer of marriage. 
Henry VIII’s devotion to Anne Boleyn set the English Reformation in motion as he attempted to annul his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Known as the King’s "Great Matter," Anne Boleyn was a major political influence on the king, helping to shape policy in England. The couple was finally able to marry in January 1533, although their happiness was short-lived. In May 1536 Anne was arrested on trumped up charges of adultery and incest and executed.
Led by Dr. Elizabeth Norton, a British historian and Tudor expert, this conversation will look at Anne Boleyn and her role in the King's Great Matter. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Anne's political importance and the role she played in the early Reformation.

Dr Elizabeth Norton is a British historian, specialising in the Tudor period. She has degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge universities and King's College London. She is the author of twelve books, including 'The Hidden Lives of Tudor Women', 'The Temptation of Elizabeth Tudor' and biographies of four of Henry VIII's wives. She regularly appears as an expert on television.
