Saint Petersburg is a city that charms visitors with its beauty. As the capital of the Russian Empire during the golden age of its history in the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries, it developed in a way unlike that of any other European city. At the core of its development was the growth of magnificent parks and palaces, many of which serve as the best examples of European park design. This conversation will explore the key events of Russian history through magnificent parks and palaces.
Despite its relative youth, Saint Petersburg has acquired much historical significance in a short time. This Russian city is one of the Imperial palaces, noble mansions, and beautiful parks. We’ll explore the stunning park design of the gardens of Peterhof, the Summer Garden, and Pavlovsk. We’ll head to some of the most stunning palaces of Saint Petersburg such as Grand Peterhof Palace, Pavlovsk Palace, Yusupov Palace, and Prince Vladimir Palace.
Led by a historian Vadim Malinovsky this crash course will give a great understanding of history, diversity, and significance of the most important highlights of Saint Petersburg. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of why we can call Saint Petersburg as a “diamond rimmed with palaces and parks”.
Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.

Vadim presented a wonderful overview of the palaces and parks of St. Petersburg. His presentation was organized and his photos were wonderful. We have taken seminars with Vadim in the past and he is the best! We would love to be able to take a tour with him in person someday in the future,
