Very interesting, thorough and well presented! We learned a lot and will use this information when we visit St. Peter’s this summer.
One of the best seminars presented by Livia Galante (and I have learned from many, many of them over the past 2 years). She led listeners through the long history of how this magnificent structure and its surroundings came to be. The leaders in its construction, the special artistic wonders within its walls, the artists who completed the works -- all in this compact seminar. So much information, some I knew but some were new! I need to re-watch to ensure that I retain it all! Thanks!
Really wonderful, detailed, well-organized seminar on St. Peter's Basilica. Livia is an excellent educator and I hope to take other classes with her in the future.
In perhaps the most superb of Livia Galante's many outstanding lectures, she carefully drew in visual terms the architectural history and spectacular works of art of St. Peter's, the largest church in the world. For the first time, I grasped Bernini's power in transforming Rome in the l7th century. I saw much more clearly how liturgy's relation to architecture made possible meaningful beauty and even effects of transcendence through light and form. Every "painting" was achieved through mosaics with exquisite details. Every sculpture has compelled attention through centuries. The plan of the huge plaza holds surprises in its magnificent columns. Don't miss this lecture the next time it comes around.
A fabulously-informed lecture, presented by a very elegant woman scholar about a seriously ornate building with knowledge and enthusiasm joined by some truly-sensational elements of graphic design. What more could you want?
