Our spotlight on Edward Hopper (1882-1967) examines the work of one of the most well-known American artists of the twentieth century. Through a comprehensive but accessible introduction to the oeuvre of the artist, we will explore Hopper’s contribution to modern art history. While analyzing autobiographical information to better grasp the inspiration sources of the artist, we will proceed to an in-depth analysis of his most iconic works depicting commonplace subjects.

During our time together we will analyze Hopper’s canvases evoking the isolation of big-city dwellers in bars, diners, trains, railroads, and gas stations – paying close attention to these works’ great coloristic quality, grasp of light and shade effects, and mastery of execution. We will also analyze Hopper’s take on the theme of isolation, loneliness, and lack of purpose in life, always treated by the artist with utmost compassion and empathy.

Led by an expert on modern and contemporary art and published author, Dr. Timea Andrea Lelik, this interactive seminar will explore the contribution of this great artist to American art history. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding and appreciation of the most iconic works by Edward Hopper and his portrayal of American society.

An outstanding seminar ... thought-provoking, insightful, well organized and beautiful images. I learned so much and will now look at Hopper's work with a much keener eye. I look forward to other seminars by Dr. Lelik.

I've attended other lectures with Dr. Lelik on Matisse and other artists and have always left impressed as she knows her subject material well. This lecture was no exception as she covered Hopper's life and works, and what to look out in her paintings. There was a technical glitch where slides wouldn't move but even with that the lecture was superb and will continue to take more lecture with Dr. Lelik.

interesting stories but had difficulty understanding Dr. Lelik's English.

Maybe Dr.Lelik spoke too quickly at times, but she also has a strong accent ,so for me, I missed a lot of what she said.
