Description
Today the skyline of London is a symbol of the city, with landmarks such as the Dome of St Paul’s Cathedral or the Big Ben clock tower famous the world over. But over time the skyline has changed in dramatic ways – thanks to genius architects and funding to build new and improved skyscrapers.
Our conversation will lead participants from the origins of the City, founded by the Romans in the 1st Century AD, through the middle ages when London’s skyline was dominated by the 489-foot spire of St Paul’s Cathedral. Our narrative timeline will continue into the modern age with a look in detail at many of the strangely shaped buildings that dominate the skyline today, including the Shard, the tallest building in western Europe.
Led by an expert on London's architecture, Nick Salmond, this Conversation will explore the ever-changing skyline of London. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of one of the world's most enchanting and intriguing cities.
