Scotland’s Western coast is an archipelago with a unique culture and an extraordinary landscape. Ranging from the Clyde islands to the Outer and Inner Hebrides, they encompass over 100 islands. Every island has its own distinctive history and morphology - from the only beach landing airport in the world on Barra to the mythical Callanish Stones that pre-date Stonehenge on Lewis. Join a local expert on an island-hopping adventure through the Western Isles of Scotland, by boat, bike, and boot.

In this seminar, participants will journey to some of Scotland’s most astonishing islands, through the lens of a professional photographer. We will start by traveling to the Treshnish Isles, beginning with the Isle of Staffa, famous for its volcanic hexagonal basalt columns and legendary partner of the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland. Next up, we’ll stop off at the Isle of Lunga, which has an array of sea birds such as the jovial Puffin (including their catch of the day). We will virtually sail over the turbulent stretch of water to the Outer Hebrides, and traverse over 100 miles and 10 islands, predominantly by bike, and make pitstops at the likes of the undulating Harris, which has beaches that would make the Caribbean jealous.

Led by an expert in the Scottish wilderness, Owen Connolly, and supported by a professional photographer, Rachel Keenan, this interactive seminar will focus on the diverse scenery, wildlife, and outdoor pursuits of The Hebrides. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased appreciation and wanderlust for the majesty and natural beauty of Scotland.

Dreaming of being there in real life!

This seminar was so evocative and so much fun. I loved the chance to "visit" these islands, even if it was only virtually. I am already planning my next trip to Scotland and these islands. I hope Owen will do more of these seminars. I'd love to travel through all the islands with him!
