Millions of people every year have this outstanding island on their travel itineraries. In this introduction to the island, we will enjoy Santorini’s classic highlights and landscapes, such as the renowned sunset in Oia, the vibrant capital Fira, and the Red Beach. We will learn how the volcano had such a predominant role in the development of the island. We will have a quick introduction to the history, the myth of Atlantis, and the dominations which alternated over the centuries. We will also discuss the classic Cycladic architecture of Santorini and the less known villages in the south of the island. Santorini has become a trendy food and wine destination: we’ll learn about the local winemaking tradition, one of the oldest in Europe, and the traditional dishes cooked with unique local products.
Led by a photographer and local expert, Nicoletta Barbata, this conversation will explore the many aspects that make Santorini so stunning through photographs, videos, and maps. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an understanding of the island’s history and gorgeous scenery.
About Your Expert
Born and bred in Milan, Nicoletta Barbata lived in Rome and London before following her Greek roots (her Grandmother) and settling in one of the most beautiful places in the world—Santorini. Nicoletta is a photographer, writer, and an eager reader. She likes to describe herself as a genuine storyteller. She is passionate about sharing her deep love for Santorini and Greek culture, the history of this stunning island, and the stories of its inhabitants.
