Join a local historian, broadcasting live from the streets of Saint Petersburg, as we take an opportunity to see what is behind its decorative facades, to go through the inner yards of the city, and to look at the real-life of the locals. The video-camera-led virtual tour will weave and wind its way through Saint Petersburg’s residential quarters, providing a unique glimpse at real-life within a tourism metropolis.

Saint Petersburg’s residential quarters were built upon a system of backyards going from one to another. The locals know the routes that you will also use during this tour avoiding big streets, looking at the informal side of the city, and experiencing its lifestyle.

Led by historian Vadim Malinovsky, this live virtual tour will give participants the idea of how the locals live and what tourists usually don’t see. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the lifestyle of Saint Petersburg and get the historical context of different types of housing.

Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin’s national policy.
