Join an archeologist, broadcasting live from Rome, as we explore such iconic landmarks as the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Trevi Fountain. Our camera-led live virtual tour will weave through the eternal city’s historic center—once known as the Campus Martius—allowing reflection and dialogue on this critical neighborhood where the ancient Romans socialized, worshipped, and rioted.

Departing from Piazza Farnese and its monumental ancient fountains, we’ll head to Campo de' Fiori, then to the newly restored Palazzo Cancelleria, made of recycled ancient material from the nearby Theater of Pompey. We'll cross over to the Pasquino statue and Piazza Navona. Walking right along the well-worn streets and paths of the ancient city, we’ll pass through the Baths of Nero on our way to the Pantheon, Saepta, and Temple of Hadrian, concluding with the Column of Marcus Aurelius and the Trevi Fountain.

This route will allow us to consider the grand palazzi that formed in the city, with scarce remains of medieval housing, and the massive display of wealth and beauty in the fountains and churches in a series of unforgettable squares. We'll also consider the built environment from subsequent periods of the city's rich history to observe what was reused, recycled, abandoned, or preserved through the centuries.

Led by an expert of Roman archaeology and history and featured TV host, Dr. Darius Arya, this immersive experience will transport viewers to the center of today's Rome where he's lived for over 20 years. The tour considers the palimpsest of Rome's rich urban development. Participants will come away with an increased understanding of Rome's complex narrative that is ever-evolving amidst its endless layers.

Always a Pleasure

I've attended many online lectures by Dr. Arya on various platforms and have never been disappointed. He brings a wealth of knowledge to his teaching on the ancient world, and his passion for Rome is infectious. His walk through the city, one I've taken in person many times, was a sight for sore eyes. It was so wonderful to see Rome again, and to learn things about the city I didn't know before. This was a very enjoyable Context presentation and I would highly recommend it to anyone else interested in this material.

Centro Storico

Wonderful idea, but the execution was lacking. The video quality was poor and a distraction. Also, Dr. Arya is exceptionally well versed and had some very interesting information, but, again, the technical quality was not great. He also spoke way too fast to catch a lot of his references to the names of places, etc. Having slides with this info in the live feed would have been a big improvement.
