There are few alive today who have not heard of Adolf Hitler, the charismatic Führer who brought the world to war, led his own nation into the abyss, and ruled a brutal regime that murdered over six million Jews in the concentration camps. But how much do we know about how all this death and destruction started? This converation seeks to answer that question and will expose just how Hitler and the Nazis came to power. From art to politics, join a historian to look at the early years of Hitler and his dark rise to power in Germany.

In this seminar, we will go back to where it all began. We’ll trace history back to Hitler’s early childhood years in Austria, going over his artistic failure in Vienna, and to his service in the trenches of the First World War. We’ll then look at the aftermath of Germany’s defeat to his political awakening in Munich where he met the fledging D.A.P, later the Nazi party. Channeling his fury and hatred of the supposed traitors into his speeches Hitler quickly found a ready audience in the disillusioned and bitter atmosphere of post-war Munich. Planning nothing less than a revolution, we’ll discuss how Hitler and his followers began a dark journey that would take them all the way to seizing power in Germany in 1933.

Of course, this is not just Hitler’s story. We will also examine the ideology of the Nazis, the early leaders of German fascism, and of the how the structural failures of the Weimar Republic, and the arrogance of its leaders who allowed such a man to take control. Led by an expert in German history, this seminar will deepen your understanding of one of history’s most dangerous ascents to power.

Once again, a masterful cutting through the noise and confusion to present a clear story of Hitler and the rise of the Nazis. I feel as if I now have the beginnings of understanding a chaotic yet crucial pinch-point of our history. So thankful Context works so hard to help educate the public our own history, art history, politics, culture, and the natural and manmade worlds.
