She is probably the most famous person in the world, but many of us don’t actually know what Queen Elizabeth's role involves. Join Vivienne Haxby to learn about the Queen of England and her various responsibilities as Head of State, Head of Nation, and understand the magic that the Queen brings to everything and everyone she touches.

Elizabeth II is the world’s oldest living and longest-serving monarch. Every year she meets countless people as she ‘spreads a carpet of happiness’ We will look at the people she has around her - both her family and the Royal Household - the team that supports her as she fulfills her role as a constitutional monarch. Viv will clarify who curtseys to whom within the royal family, and who is entitled to use the title HRH.

She divides her time between three official residences and a number of private homes, and we will consider how the various houses are used. For many decades Her Majesty has hosted  State Visits and State Banquets. She has attended numerous investitures and garden parties and has met her Prime Minister every week in a private audience. She is Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and Viv will explain the significance of ceremonies such as Trooping the Colour,  Remembrance Sunday, and the State Opening of Parliament. Finally, we will consider how all of this is financed.

Led by an expert on the history of London and British royalty, Vivienne Haxby, this interactive seminar will explore the daily life of the Queen of England. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of her myriad roles and responsibilities.

Viv has a degree in English Language and Medieval Literature from Durham University. She spends part of each year in France, but for the past 25 years London has been home. She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for London's C18 and C19 history and her detailed knowledge of the city's royal connections. She has a particular interest in the great aristocratic landholdings of London, and has created walks around the 'villages' of London such as Chelsea, Bloomsbury and Spitalfields. Viv also works as a volunteer marshal, or 'Green Gown' at Westminster Abbey.
