Since the invasion to Ukraine, Russian state-sponsored propaganda works with public opinion of the citizens. It seems that the majority of the population supports the war with Ukraine and keeps repeating the main points provided by the state propaganda. There is no wonder why some political scientists compare it with radiation: We can notice not only TV programs and newspapers that justify the war but we can also see propagandists’s activities in social medias and even in education.

There are several popular themes of Putin’s propaganda that are quite well-known in the world. Number one is the expansion of NATO as a threat to Russia. Number two is that the conflict with Ukraine and potentially with the West was inevitable. One of the most controversial one is that the Russian army is liberating Ukraine from pro-American Nazis. In this conversation we will focus on the most popular Russian propaganda points and examine the meaning and origins of each of them.

Led by a historian whose military specialty is a political instructor (propagandist!) Vadim Malinovsky this seminar will give a deep dive into the roots and statements of Putin’s propaganda. Designed to inform curiosity as well as distant future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the details of the propaganda campaign as well as how to resist it.

Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.

One of the best Conversations I've attended. Timely, insightful, infuriating - I hope Vadim gives more talks on subjects like this soon.
