Paris is known for its majestic architecture and harmonious cityscape. Throughout history, Paris has been a refuge for artists seeking freedom of expression, and it has been the stage for some simply stunning (and sometimes shocking) cultural and artistic projects. Join Art historian Alicja Reksc to explore the most unexpected and unforgettable works by French and international contemporary artists in Paris.

Sculptures and art installations are not usually the focus for first-time visitors to Paris. But, by looking beyond the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, many beautiful stories emerge from behind the scenes of the contemporary art world that can enrich our understanding of the City of Lights. Together we will learn about the critical nonchalance of the Nouveaux Réalistes, the love story of Jeanne-Claude and Christo, or the scandals around sculptures in the gardens of Versailles' Palace. We will see the work of French and international artists including Joan Mirò, Ólafur Eliasson, Takashi Murakami, and Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, among others.

Led by an expert on art history, Alicja Reksc, this interactive seminar will take you to see the most unusual and stunning contemporary sculptures in Paris. Designed to inform curiosity and future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Parisian cultural exhibitions and the stories behind them.

Alicja Reksc, PhD, is an art historian. Her thesis was partly dedicated to the phenomenon of anxiety present in contemporary American art. Born in Poland and based in Paris, she works as a freelance journalist, art critic, and guide.

Outrageous Sculptures

We enjoyed the presentation and would like to see more presentations on modern art. One criticism: The quality of some of the photo's were poor. Since this is a talk on art, I would like to see more pictures with better quality.

Lovely Views of Modern Sculptures

I love modern sculpture - and this was a great walk through eye-catching art with some basics about why they were made. I found it strange how negatively some of the art was received by the Parisians (I guess not all Puritans live in America) Thanks for the great experience.
