Mount Fuji is a UNESCO World Heritage that inspired artists and poets and has been the object of pilgrimage for centuries. It is also an active volcano that is very popular among Japanese and foreign climbers alike. Discover the charm of one of the symbols of Japan, learn how to prepare for a climb, and listen to the actual climbing experience.
In the first part of this seminar, we will focus on Mount Fuji from both a geological and a historical point of view. We will also learn about its symbolism in Japanese culture. In the second half of our lecture, we will talk about climbing, how to prepare and which path to take aiming for the top. Listen to the actual climbing experience and get tips for any future trip.
Led by an expert on Japanese culture, history, folklore, and religion, Marcin Tatarczuk, this interactive seminar will focus on Mount Fuji, both as a symbol of Japan and as a travel destination. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with knowledge about one of the most recognizable symbols of Japan and will gain practical information helping them prepare for the climb.
