Join a local historian, broadcasting live from the streets of Moscow, as we visit classic landmarks such as the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, legendary side streets of the city, and stroll along Tverskaya Street. The video-camera-led virtual tour will weave and wind its way through Moscow’s classic landmarks, offering opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and an immersive visual experience.

We will start on the bridge over the river Moskva and look at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior that is the main cathedral of modern Russia. We will see the biggest monument to Peter the Great and stroll along Tverskaya Street, the main avenue of the city. We will explore many monuments along the way and contextualize major historical moments – such as the transfer of the capital from Moscow to Saint Petersburg for two centuries, the Bolshevik Revolution, and the first decrees of the Soviets.

Led by historian Vadim Malinovsky, this live virtual tour will give participants the street view of Moscow and teach us how to find our way through the heart of the city. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the planning of the city and its history from the medieval period to modern times.

Vadim is a historian (MA) who has graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His focus is contemporary Russian history. He is working on a PhD dissertation on Stalin's national policy.

A lovely Sunday in Moscow.

I particularly enjoyed the road less travelled on this one. Seeing the various parts of Moscow other than the internationally famous landmarks was quite lovely. I also enjoyed Vadim's sense of humor, particularly when he shared it was like visiting the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. He is quite funny and has such an interesting perspective being Russian and having grown up there. His enthusiasm is lovely.

Great tour!

While on a Russian River cruise I missed the tour of Moscow due to an injury. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to “see” Moscow with Vadim. He is a knowledgable and enthusiastic tour guide, and even while virtual, I believe I had a better tour than I would have had live. I’m so glad to have had this experience. I will definitely watch for more tours with him.
