There are many other fashion world capitals–Paris, New York, Rome–so why does Milan continue to retain its irresistible charm when we talk about fashion? This conversation will explain the reason behind this prestigious fashion capital through an exploration of the history of fashion and manufacturing in Milan through the centuries.

A particular focus will be on the golden periods of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, telling all the industrial and manufacturing development of Milan and Lombardy during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The extraordinary creativity and innovation of designers such as Prada, Biki, Armani, Fiorucci, and many others, have done the rest.

We’ll trace Milan’s rise to fashion fame and the top brands behind this modish tale. We’ll learn why all the top designers have created their headquarters here and what this means for world fashion. Led by a Milan-based art historian, Laura Benittii, this interactive seminar will introduce the basic fashionista into the world of Milan’s fashion heart. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will leave the seminar with a deeper understanding of just how and why Milan has come to be known as the fashion capital of the world.

Laura was born in Turin, where she studied history of art, but moved to Milan in 2002. Since her graduation, she has accumulated a long experience as an art consultant and registrar in a few museums in Turin, as well as expertise as a local Milan guide. She loves to be both an experienced and friendly local ambassador of Milan and Como area for her travelers.

I enjoyed it but wished there was more info on 1950-present. Also, found background noise a bit distracting, (someone on the phone)?

Rapid speech

I had to listen very carefully, because Laura spoke so fast. I would have liked more information about designers from 2000 to 2020, and the current status of the Italian fashion industry
