Join us in the Netherlands, as we pause to admire the millions of bulb flowers growing in the Keukenhof Gardens –– where Tulip Season is in full swing. It is the local favorite time of the year, and sadly in-person visits are currency unavailable at the most delightful garden in the world: the Keukenhof Tulip Garden.

However, we can digitally venture along the winding paths, as we enjoy video clips to admire the many varieties of bulbous flowers. Together we will take a closer look at the tender colors of the daffodils and emperor’s crowns, the stunning colors of hyacinths, and the countless colors and shapes of the tulips.

Included in exploration is a visit to the adjacent flower fields and a quick glance at the Keukenhof Castle. Keukenhof means kitchen garden, the 15th-century grounds in fact pre-date the castle by a couple of hundred years. The use of the garden as a showground for bulbous flowers started in 1950, an initiative of Holland’s bulb growers. During a typical season, this festival of flowers attracts nearly one million visitors in just eight weeks.

Led by an expert on garden and landscape history, Dr. Alette Fleischer, this interactive seminar will show you the wonderful flowers of Spring, in and around the Keukenhof Tulip Garden. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased fascination for Holland’s Spring flowers – and a longing to experience the gardens in person once they re-open.

Amsterdam-born Alette Fleischer has a degree in Art History and a PhD in 17th Dutch History, focusing on gardens, science, and technology. She has curated several exhibitions, publishes articles, presents lectures, and a proud Context Expert. For Context Travel, Alette has led the Rijksmuseum tours many times. Motto: staying curious is key for being a good historian.
