Known as the ‘red city’, Marrakesh is Morocco's biggest draw for foreign visitors. It’s easy to see why. From its maze-like medina and bustling souks to its authentic cuisine and plethora of unexpected experiences, there’s something for everyone. This Conversation will dive right into the hustle and bustle of Morocco’s most celebrated city.
Marrakesh is Morocco's biggest draw for foreign visitors. In this seminar, we will spend an extended period in this old imperial capital. We start within the walls of the 'red city', exploring the historic medina from the shadow of the 900-year-old Koutoubia Minaret, through the food and street theatre of the epic Djemma el Fna square, to its souks and palaces. In the modern city, we will admire Yves Saint-Laurent's Art Deco gardens and look to the future with the city's thriving modern art scene.
Led by an expert on Morocco, travel writer and guidebook author Paul Clammer, this seminar will transport viewers to the wonders of Marrakesh. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Marrakesh’s unique vibrancy, history, and culture as well as tips for future visits.
Paul Clammer is a travel writer and the author of more than 40 guidebooks for Lonely Planet. What a delightful experience. Probably will never visit, but I'm certainly delighted to have viewed this presentation to see what I am missing.
Excellent review of the local history, geographic relevance, and interesting venues in Marrakesh.
An excellent introduction to Marrakech, especially for those who knew very little before the talk. It was informative, interesting and entertaining. Paul is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic with decades of experience leading tours, writing Lonely Planet books and living part time in Morocco. The talk has spurred my interest in actually visiting.
This was great.
This is a good introduction to Marrakech with a present or that has a good knowledge of the city and country.
