Barcelona's iconic La Sagrada Familia has at last re-opened its doors to visitors, following an eighteen-month closure due to the global pandemic. Broadcasting live from the venue, licensed guide Guille Genestar will guide us through this stunning Basilica in real-time. Participants on this live walking tour will enjoy an in-depth 90-minute tour of the beautiful interiors during the golden hours of sunset – as the day's last light filters in rainbows through Gaudí's magnificently designed stain glass windows.

Our time together will be spent learning about Gaudí's remarkable life and career as we tour his most famous work in progress. Our tour will conclude with a stroll around the venue's exterior as we study the varying motifs on each of the three grand façades: the Nativity façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the Glory façade to the South (not yet completed).

For more than 140 years this landmark venue has been a work in progress. Its construction has spanned two World Wars, the Spanish Civil War, and now a global pandemic. Antoni Gaudí left a complex road map for the current architects to complete his masterpiece. Jordi Faulí, the current Chief Architect of the Basilica, has said: “With Gaudí, it has been like learning a new language, not only the vocabulary but the grammar as well”. The Basilica's construction was on track to be finished in 2026–exactly 100 years after Gaudí's death. However, meeting that deadline is no longer possible.  Our tour will contextualize the design choices its architects have made over time, as well as the challenges faced by the onsite construction teams today.

Led by a licensed guide, our virtual walking tour will provide learners with the experience of stepping into this historical landmark and experiencing its breathtaking beauty first-hand. Designed to inspire curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of this UNESCO World Heritage site's remarkable architectural features and its never-ending journey to completion.

For travelers keen to enjoy the beauty of La Sagrada Familia in person, we invite you to explore our Private Walking Tour.
