In this sixth Constitutional Conversation, we’ll begin the new year with a look at Inauguration Day, how the tradition began and what we can expect from the event in 2021. We’ll examine the 20th Amendment, ratified in 1933, and what it meant for the transition of Presidential terms in a live conversation with a Constitutional Law expert.

This Conversation is one of a series in which we explore current constitutional topics in-depth, anchoring them in the context of historical constitutional developments. These Constitutional Conversations are designed to foster discussion with an expert and explore your questions and curiosity on this week’s topic through the interactive Q&A.

Led by the President of the nation's Center for Civic Education, Christopher R. Riano, Esq, this conversation is set to deepen your understanding of the Constitution and its role in elections today. Bring your curious mind and questions as we engage in a conversation about the role elections and voting play in a representative democracy, and the importance of representation to a vibrant civic discourse.

Christopher R. Riano is the President of the nation's Center for Civic Education, America's largest and most prestigious constitutional law and civic education organization dedicated to promoting an enlightened and responsible citizenry committed to democratic principles and actively engaged in the practice of civic virtue both in America and around the globe. He also serves as a Lecturer in Constitutional Law and Government at Columbia University, where he focuses his teaching and writing on comparative constitutionalism, constitutional jurisprudence, and the importance of making constitutional law accessible to as many people as possible.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

A most informed presentation of the political protocol by Mr. Riano. I thoroughly enjoyed this and learned a lot. It also offered a welcoming grounding at such a highly fraught time, a calm explanation of the process and its history. I look forward to other Conversations or tours with him.

This webinar taught so much about how the Constitution applies to the oath of office, the history of Inauguration and was easy to understand.
