On the 19th of March 2021, a volcano in the Reykjanes Peninsula of Iceland erupted. Two days later, Iceland local expert Ryan Connolly was at Geldingadalir to see it for himself. Join us as we will travel around the Reykjanes Peninsula, learn about the geology of Iceland, and see first-hand amateur footage of the eruption.

The March 2021 eruption followed a spate of 40,000 earthquakes in this quiet part of Iceland, so the big event was not a surprise to local residents. Thankfully, when the volcano erupted it was effusive, meaning mostly slow moving lava. This allowed Connolly and other spectators, under the advice and monitoring of the civic authorities, to visit the site safely. The ongoing eruption has attracted visitors from all over the country.

Led by an expert on Iceland's outdoor terrain, Ryan Connolly, this interactive seminar will explore the 2021 volcanic eruption in Iceland with a first-hand account. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the geology of the Reykjanes Peninsula and the science behind its unique volcanic situation.

Ryan Connolly is a Scottish-born, permanent resident of Iceland. After stepping foot on all 7 continents in 2016, he used his expertise in exploration and nature to set up Hidden Iceland, one of the highest-rated tour companies in Iceland on Tripadvisor. Ryan's expertise in glacier exploration and survival makes him ideal to share his adopted homeland with you. He is a Wilderness First Responder and holds qualifications in Glacier Exploration (Joklar 2) as well as having 100s of days of guided outdoor exploration in snow, ice, rock and mountainous terrain.

Great photos & video

Some great visuals and an enthusiastic presenter. Overall though I found it a bit too 'chatty' and would have liked a more rigorously scientific approach. Also audio quality wasn't great.

Another great "trip" with Ryan!

This is the third Iceland "tour" I've taken with Ryan. He's great! Well organized; enthusiastic; personable; and offers a wealth of information. This one was particularly timely since the volcano is erupting in Iceland NOW!

Excellent seminar on Geldingadalsgo volcano eruption in Iceland

Ryan gave us a fascinating introduction to volcanic activity in Iceland, focused on the recent eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula. The presentation was well paced and comprehensive, including on-site videos and photos of the on-going eruptions since March of this year. He also suggested many sites to visit should we be lucky enough to go to Iceland post-COVID. His presentation is well worth watching again and again.
