In anticipation of the premiere of the 2021 film House of Gucci, we will learn the stories of the Gucci family and the enormous impact that their brand continues to have on the fashion industry. For many fashionistas, Gucci is the ultimate symbol of style, achievement, and luxury. For others, Gucci calls to mind decades of residual scandal, feuds, and alleged murder. This drama has been adapted to fit the pages of tabloids as well as the silver screen.

The Guccis are a traditional family of merchants from Florence. At the turn of the twentieth century, Guccio Gucci founded a company of luxury luggage inspired by his experience working in high-end hotels in Paris and London.  Since then, the family business has launched countless innovative techniques and new styles.

After World War II, ownership of the family company was distributed between Guccio’s three sons, Aldo, Vasco, and Rodolfo. In the 1950s Gucci launches the famous moccasins for men which would become the symbol of achievement in the 1980s and opens the first American store. Decades of internal feuds and rivalries will ultimately cause the end of the family's ownership of the enterprise. Mauricio Gucci would be the last Gucci standing in the company, ending his evolvement in 1993. The greatest scandal of the House of Gucci was Mauricio’s assassination by his wife Patrizia Reggiani.

Led by a leading expert on fashion history, we will study Gucci's evolution from small family affairs into a global enterprise. Designed to inspire curiosity as well as future travels, participants will gain an insider view of a classic brand – known for its representation of luxury, high-quality Italian craftsmanship, and daring styles.

Great Overview!

This was a great overview of the story of Gucci and helps to paint a picture of the family and its dramatic story. However, I think it would have been interesting to have this be two parts because there is so much to cover that I feel it only scratched the surface. Maybe it can be expanded in the future. But I still enjoyed it a lot :)
