In this conversation, we will be led through the Golden Age of Dutch art through a selection of paintings and objects from the world-renowned collection of Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. The discussion will immerse us in the time of Rembrandt and Vermeer, exploring all the crucial masterworks. We'll talk about the 'Jewish Bride' and "The Milkmaid", intertwined with lovely nuggets of knowledge and anecdotes on life and culture in the booming cities of 17th century Holland. The Rijksmuseum holds the world's finest collection of Dutch art from the 17th century and this is the ideal experience for those with an interest in this period.

Led by a specialist in the Golden Age, Sabry Amroussi (who considers the Rijksmuseum his second home), we'll see the period brought to light by both his humor and knowledge. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a profound understanding of what this period in time meant to art, society, and the world as a whole.

Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and also has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. He lectures and teaches on both subjects, and gives art historical tours all across Europe. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection on Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.

The Best of the Best

The 30 paintings Sabry selected to discuss are the best of the best Dutch art, and Sabry is the best of the best art critics and historians! I have attended several of his Conversations, and each has been remarkable! I hope to attend many more!

Educational, engaging and fun

This is my second Sabry seminar. Both have been top notch. He is a polished, knowledgeable educator who makes learning enjoyable. His love of Dutch art is infectious, leaving me with hopes of visiting Holland when the world is back to normal. I particularly like his adept use of media where he zooms in on paintings in order to focus on the details. Sabry offers the learner not only an understanding of the artist's technique but also a social and historical explanation of each piece. I look forward to more seminars with Sabry.

One of the Best there is.

Fantastic job framing up what was going on in society, art and the different techniques. Great ability to the the societal view and macro zoom in on specific details within paintings you would never see in person. I have been the tie Museum 4 times in person and on my own. And never done a tour as the times were off. This was far better. You are right in front of the art being discussed. A definite must for anyone interested in art.
