Antoni Gaudí is one of the most important architects in history. Join a Barcelona-based art historian to discover how Gaudí broke away from traditional thinking about design and construction and started an architectural revolution with a style that defies classification. We will explore nineteenth-century Barcelona and understand Gaudí's remarkable life and career in context.
We will start our story with a deep dive into the lifestyles of the bourgeoisie of Barcelona and how their rising wealth influenced architecture.  With the arrival of the Modernist movement, we will compare Gaudí to his peers around the world.  Then, we will look at the works themselves as we wander Barcelona's picturesque streets and see the fantastical villas, buildings, and of course, La Sagrada Familia.  We will also learn about his deep Catholic faith and how this earned him the nickname "God's Architect".
Led by local Catalonian and art historian Biel Heredero, this interactive conversation will unpick the narrative of this fascinating architect, his life, and his connection with Barcelona. Designed to inform and inspire, we will emerge with increased knowledge and understanding of how Gaudí sparked a revolution in architecture and engineering.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

Excellent seminar

I've read various things about Gaudi, but nothing that put him into context so elegantly. It was a fun, enlightening, and beautifully-planned talk.

Enjoyed learning some of the early history of the development of the city of Barcelona and the very plain houses that existed prior to the time of Gaudi.. The use of nature by Gaudi sets him apart from many architects along with his desire not to use straight lines. I am looking forward to the video as my area had a brief power outage during the seminar. Well done.
