Description
The city of Dubrovnik in Croatia was one of the main locations for the filming of the HBO television series Game of Thrones (GOT). Most of the scenes from King's Landing throughout seasons 2,3,4,5 and 8 were filmed in the city center and its surroundings. This seminar will explore the filming of GOT in Dubrovnik intertwined with all the behind-the-scenes and production trivia placing the series in Dubrovnik’s historic context.
George R.R. Martin, the writer of the fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire that the show was based on once said of the book setting "It's an authentic medieval city surrounded by walls, part of the world's cultural heritage. I first saw it at night. As we walked around the city, I had the impression that the walls glowed in the dark. The whole city shone. A beautiful place." Given that Dubrovnik was one of the most historically important and beautiful medieval cities in Europe, it is no wonder that D.B. Weiss and David Benioff chose Dubrovnik as Kings Landing, which is the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in the fictional world of Westeros.
Led by an expert on Dubrovnik history and local traditions, Nikoleta Moretić, this interactive seminar will show participants all the Game of Thrones filming trivia and behind-the-scenes gossip intertwined with some of the real history of Dubrovnik.
