The Dead Sea is a vast expanse of salty water, landlocked by Jordan to the East and Israel and Palestine to its West. Find out about the world's saltiest lake and the lowest place on Earth with a local expert.

There is no place like the Dead Sea. Here you are at the lowest place on earth where you cannot sink in the densely saline waters. The Dead Sea has attracted ancient civilizations such as the Romans and Maccabees. It is home to King Herod's mountain top fortress of Masada, the site of the biblical Dead Sea scrolls, and a unique ecology and fauna and flora. Today the Dead Sea is slowly dying as it dries up due to human impact and climate change. In this seminar, we will explore the unique history of this unique natural wonder and we will discuss the environmental and political challenges the Dead Sea faces today as well as the measures being discussed by Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority to save the Dead Sea before it is too late.

Led by Dr. Clive Linchpin, a local expert on water resources management and policy, this interactive seminar will explore the depths of the Dead Sea from politics to the environment and beyond. Designed to inform curiosity and inspire future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of one of the best-known bodies of water in the world.

Dr. Clive Lipchin serves as the director of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies' Center for Transboundary Water Management where he oversees research and development projects, workshops, and conferences that focus on transboundary water and environmental problems facing Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority. His specialty is in water resources management and policy.
