The end-of-year holiday season is when French joie de vivre truly shines. Streets are decked out in twinkling lights, magical shop windows and holiday markets delight all ages, and holiday menus abundant in the finest delicacies are prepared with meticulous detail. This special Context Conversation will transport you to this sensorial and decadent time of year in France and explore what makes French holiday traditions unique.

We will start this Conversation by setting the holiday tone, from visiting marchés de noël (Christmas markets) to seeing how the French decorate for the holidays, both in spaces and at home. As a gastronomically focused country, specialty food products play a central role in festive celebrations. We will discuss these mouth-watering delicacies, explore regional differences and design our own French holiday menu. However, the holiday season does not end at Christmas. The festivities continue with New Year’s Eve, also celebrated à la française, and culminate with Epiphany, on January 6th, commemorated with different regional specialties.

Led by Paris-based travel writer Lily Heise, this interactive discussion will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the various facets which distinguish French holiday traditions. Designed to inform curiosity, future travels, or inspire you to add a French touch to your own holiday season, thanks to our specially designed French holiday menu and tips we will be giving throughout the Conversation.

Lily is a wonderful tour guide!

I took time during this busy week to enjoy a bit of the Christmas season by visiting France. Lily was our tour guide while visiting Paris in 2019. She was a great guide during our tour of the Montmarte area, and she did a great job with this virutual seminar. I loved hearing about all the traditions of the French culture. I hope she's booked for other seminars, Lily you're the best!!!
