The Capitoline?

Inside of the magnificent Capitoline Museum lies the Picture Gallery, a woefully underrated gallery and the oldest public collection of paintings in Europe. Built atop Rome's Capitoline Hill (1748-1750) to house Pope Benedict XIV's private collections, The Sachetti and Pio di Savoia. The museum's collections would only grow, particularly through the Nineteenth Century, with further purchases and donations, the most noteworthy being Count Francesco Cini's legacy (1881): a stunning donated collection of porcelain. Beyond that, the extraordinary Capitoline includes masterpieces by masters such as Titian, Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci, Guido Reni and Rubens.

Led by an expert on History and Conservation of the Artistic Heritage, Livia Galante, this conversation will allow you to travel through the expansive walls of the Capitoline from your home, truly giving you the chance to enjoy and deeply study the various works. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased comprehension of Renaissance and Baroque painting as well as with the awareness of the importance of this department of the better-known Capitoline museums.

Livia obtained a degree in Archaeology at the Sapienza University of Rome and has a Master's degree in the History and Conservation of Cultural Heritage from the University of Roma Tre. Her main field of interest is ancient Roman topography and early Christian architecture; however, she is an accomplished scholar whose teaching ability extends to the Renaissance and Baroque Rome. As a native Roman, Livia is very enthusiastic about sharing the deep love and knowledge she has for her hometown with clients.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.
