Budapest: An Introduction, with Gabor Monath
Regular price £27.00 Save £-27.00
Separated by the rolling river Danube but connected by some spectacular bridges the characteristically different settlements of Buda and Pest form one of the most interesting cities in Europe and Hungary's capital. Budapest is as intriguingly eclectic as the history of Hungary. Nowhere else has eclecticism been acknowledged and valued so highly as in Budapest where frequent wars decimated population and culture while peaceful times often destroyed the achievements of the ancestors. This abundance of historical turning points and cultural changes has resulted in an apparent contradiction: Budapest is often not as old as it looks while it often not as new as it appears.
Our virtual tour will highlight sites that are easily accessible on foot, but the presentation format will allow us to cover a greater distance both on the streets and in the history of Budapest. Apart from some of the most prominent buildings of the capital, the presentation intends to introduce the spectacular artistry of the cityscape as well.
Led by Gabor Monath, an expert on history, architecture, and culture, this interactive seminar will briefly introduce history as it shaped the Hungarian capital and highlight some unique aspects of culture that only Budapest offers. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of what makes Budapest special at the crossroads of east and west.

I have researched Budapest in the past and even had a
visit arranged but had to cancel. Gabor's webinar was very well presented and provided insights I wasn't aware of. I feel I am much better prepared for a future visit. Of the webinars I have watched - his was the very best. Please pass my respect and appreciation to him.
Gábor was an excellent host and very engaging. I appreciated he kept it going and was so well prepared.
It was fascinating to learn why and how Budapest became such a crossroads of commerce and a city of such diversity. The maps and photos as well as the tour guide’s text were very informative.
