There is much more to Morocco than its dynamic cities. Beyond these eclectic mazes lie the stunning Atlas mountains and swathes of Saharan sand stretching for miles. Join an expert on Morocco as we scale the heights of the Atlas mountains and trek on a virtual camel through the desert.

In this conversation, we will escape the cities of Morocco for the grandest horizons that North Africa country can offer. We will take a tour through the many ranges of the Atlas Mountains that ripple across the country, including a virtual climb of North Africa's highest peak, Mount Toubkal. Then, we will saddle up our camels to ride into the country's deep south, where the endless dune seas of the Sahara carry echoes of the ancient trade caravans that once brought salt and gold from Timbuctou to Marrakesh.

Led by an expert on Morocco, travel writer and guidebook author Paul Clammer, this interactive seminar will transport participants to the deserts, dunes, and mountains that bless Morocco. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of what lies beyond Morocco’s beguiling cities.

Paul Clammer is a travel writer and the author of more than 40 guidebooks for Lonely Planet. He first visited Morocco in 1994, and has been a regular visitor every since, working there as a tour guide and as co-writer on five editions of LP's guidebook to the country. More recently, he has lived in the medina in Fez, where his partner is` restoring a centuries-old traditional Moroccan townhouse.

This conversation is suitable for all ages.

90 minutes, including a 30 minute Q&A.

Learned a lot

I have been planning a trip to Morocco for several years and am thinking of doing a tour as my start-off, then spending some time in FEZ to explore and round out my having visited the oldest university in Europe, having studied at Oxford, and having learned about the Ottoman deep reverence for learning through my brip to Spain and fascinating with the Aga Kahn Museum in Toronoto. I had two desert adventures (one by camel) while working in Dubai and travelling to other Emirates, but was particularly interested in the places in the Rift and the Foothills that are more popular among local vacationers, so for me, that was the most interesting part of the experience. I am very impressed with Paul and will look for his name attached to any other of your offerings. And very interested that his partner has a house under 'project' in Fez. This was a great introduction to your on-line experiences, Thank you!

Highly recommended to all

Paul gave a terrific talk. It was compellingly organized by mountain regions of Morocco and he used a map to keep us aware during the talk of which region we were in. He was loaded with information on history, culture and geography, as well as practical information about visiting Morocco. Great photos too!
